Doing Business In Memphis

Overview:

This program was designed to be a listing of Memphis businesses and information about them.

Client's Problem:

The client had an existing database solution but it only worked on Macintosh computers. They needed something for Windows that was powerful but still easy to use.

Our Solution:

The solution came in the form of a Visual Basic interface and a Microsoft Access database that originally copied the look and feel of it's Macintosh counterpart, but eventually grew to be more powerful. We added a custom search engine that incorporated searches the way the client desired, not the way they were locked into doing it with the program they had previously used.

Customizable interface -- graphics that the client provided were used for most buttons
Maintained the look and feel of the program it was based on, but expanded upon it
Instantly view all records by type of business, zip code, SIC code and much more
The ability to search and refine the results further and further until you have what you need
The ability to select all Owners and Managers (for example) in the database for export
The ability to add a single comment to all current records at once
